A Single Drop for Safe Water

Currently, over 13 million people do not have access to water. This is not due to lack of water, but a lack of operating infrastructure to distribute and treat water. ASDSW is a non-profit organization building the capacity of self-reliant partnerships to implement community-driven clean water and sanitation solutions through sustainable organizational strategies, WASH Education and appropriate technologies. ASDSW unites communities to resolve their own water issues by creating and/or strengthening community-based water organizations to act as local hubs of water expertise offering viable water services and promote WASH Education and campaigns. Our goal is to improve community health, foster technical and organizational self-reliance and prOmote financial independence to ensure community ownership and sustainability.

AER is an independent, reform-oriented and activist policy group founded in 1996 by a group of progressive scholars and activists in the Philippines. The group works to put in place a macroeconomic environment characterized by sustainable development, equitable distribution of income, robust and fair trade relations, and democratic governance. AER initiates and supports activities that build the capacity of people’s organizations and NGOs to intervene in economic policy issues; develop policy alternatives and economic strategies; and influence policy/win policy reforms.

This way, they are able to provide tangible benefits to marginalized communities, while encouraging their active sharing and participation in the process of innovation.

This research seeks to understand the needs and value system of the BoP as a customer or consumer of services and products, how they manage their household budgets when income streams are random and whether any payment plans or business models can be developed to address this challenge.
The short term goal is to design a conceptual prototype of an innovative payment strategy or business model by which a community can share the cost of a shared resource or asset, or enable access to a product such as information technology.

SPPD was established in 1987 and operates directly under the Vietnam Government. The Department was initially tasked to do pest monitoring and management, and oversee the selling of pesticides in the Angiang Province. In 1994, SPPD ceased its pesticide-selling operations and began its work in plant protection. At present, the department has around 25 office staff members, over 50 members working in the district and about 154 members working in the communities of the province. SPPD aims to share and transfer new technologies to farmers on various crops.
